ORANGE COUNTY, CA — On Tuesday, Orange County’s Board of Supervisors gathered in their protective face masks to thank the OC Korean Society for the gift personal protective equipment for Orange County’s medical community.
Orange County Board of Supervisors accepted generous donations of personal protective equipment from the Korean American community of California, delivered by South Korean Consul General Wan Joong Kim, and three local non-profit organizations: the TOC Foundation, the Elegant Culture and Tradition Center, and the Chinese American CPA Association. These donations will go to the Orange County Health Care Agency for use by county health care workers and first responders.
The following donations were made:
– South Korean Los Angeles Consulate: 2,000 KN95 masks
-TOC Foundation: 5000 EXANOVO disposable face masks, 250 face masks from various brands, 657 N95/P95/KN95/KF94 respirators, 250 Nitrile gloves and 3 bottles of 705 Alcohol
-Elegant Culture & Tradition Center: 6000 face masks, 100 medical coveralls, 60 face shells, 60 safety goggles, 60 shoe covers
-Chinese American CPA Association: 3,100 disposable masks, 29,000 surgical gloves
Chairwoman Michelle Steel of the Orange County Board of Supervisors had this to say of the donation:
“I am grateful beyond words about these donations made by Consul General Kim. This generous donation highlights our continued friendship with South Korea, and California’s Korean American community,” she said. “The donations of personal protective equipment from the TOC Foundation, the Elegant Culture and Tradition Center, and the Chinese American CPA Association will provide essential protection for our county health care workers and first responders.”
Their eyes were smiling at the Board of Supervisors meeting, as they posed. All wore full-face masks during the meeting.
“The fact that these masks are here, and the Korean American population of Orange County donated this gift is no surprise to me,” Supervisor Don Wagner said. “All five of us thank you for this generous gift.”
Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do has championed the idea of mandatory face masks for all, as has been done in Riverside County and San Bernardino County while others have insisted that they stop short of a mandate.
Instead, they look to Orange County Health Care Agency Dr. Nichole Quick’s recommendation that face masks be worn by essential workers.
