More Local News Coverage for Manhattan Beach!

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Local Manhattan Beach news. Stories about people in Manhattan Beach. You may have noticed that MB Patch is now covering your community with more in-depth, nuanced, local stories. And that’s the plan — to bring you, the Manhattan Beach community, super local news, 24/7, online.

I’m Liz Spear, Manhattan Beach resident and the new Community Publisher of Manhattan Beach Patch. I covered MB Patch as Local Editor from 2010-2014 and covered the city extensively, publishing lots of local news you couldn’t find anywhere else! That’s what we’re doing again, now! And I’d like you to join me for the journey, as part of the MB Patch community. I want your input, your feedback, your ideas. That’s what a community does — it grows together!

Patch and I have partnered to build a new model for local news. And I’m excited about where we’re headed! In fact, I know, with your help, we can build a sustainable news model. Manhattan Beach has long been a city of “firsts” and champions and a community that leads the charge for new endeavors. Let’s lead the way for a new local news model that actually works!

Here’s what you can do to support MB Patch, right now:

  • Sign up for our daily email newsletter.

  • Tell your friends about us.

  • Become a member. Use the “Donate” button above the first story on the homepage and donate $5 per month, $10 per month, or $50 or $100 annually. After credit cards fees, all the revenue collected goes to the Community Publisher.

  • Become a Sponsor. The Manhattan Beach Patch gets over 150,000 monthly visits, so we’re a great way to reach customers for your local business. Email me at liz.spear@patch.com to discuss sponsorships. They’re reasonably priced, and we go out of our way to make sure your business gets seen by people in our community.

It’s no coincidence that I am the first Community Publisher for Patch, which has news sites nationwide. And I intend to make Manhattan Beach Patch the first successful Patch news site using a Donate and Sponsorship model. With your help.

So, here’s a little bit about me. I grew up in South Redondo Beach on The Avenues and bought my first home in MB in 1995. I graduated from Mira Costa’s rival high school Redondo Union, then San Diego City College with an AA in Journalism, followed by Cal State University Long Beach with a BS in Journalism, Public Relations Option.

I’ve worked for the City of Rancho Palos Verdes in their Parks & Rec department, the Daily Breeze newspaper (11 years) where I was an Advertorial Writer and Special Sections Editor in the Marketing department and freelanced features and theatrical and music reviews for the Editorial department, in corporate communications at Mattel, Inc., in the Publications department at the RAND Corporation, as an online digital news editor at KGTV in San Diego, and been published by several magazines. I love digital journalism because it can do so much, and quickly, and it’s 24/7.

I enjoy the outdoors, listening to music, reading, traveling, nature. And though I did not know how great a city Manhattan Beach was when I first moved here, I certainly learned all about it when I covered the city for Patch.

Times change. Look at where we are now with the novel coronavirus and social justice issues. Journalism has changed and is changing, and I invite you to be a part of it. Let’s talk. Email me at Liz.Spear@Patch.com or text or call me at (310) 613-6016. I want to cover this town like it’s never been covered before!
